Our Priorities

We believe the power to create long-term, sustainable health change lies within African communities. We ensure people have the knowledge, skills and means to break the cycle of poor health and poverty.

We do this by:

  • championing women who are at the heart of family and community health

  • supporting communities others cannot or do not reach

  •  creating conditions for good health, catalysing the hidden energies within communities

Maternal & Child Health

Women are the gatekeepers to their communities' health. We work primarily through women and girls, to build the knowledge, skills and means to transform their health, laying foundations for generations to come.

Training Health Workers

Amref Health Africa is training health workers in close to 40 African countries. Through this training, we aim to strengthen the capacity and capability of health and health-related professionals and institutions.

Sexual Reproductive Health

One of the challenges people living in sub-Saharan Africa face is access to sexual health and family planning education. We want to ensure communities have the information and options they need to have responsible, safe and satisfying sex lives.

Water & Sanitation

Without access to safe water, it is impossible to prevent disease and maintain good health. We seek to increase access to sustainable, safe and adequate water, appropriate sanitation and hygiene practices.
