Who We Are

Who We Are Africa’s Leading Health Development Organisation

Winner of the prestigious Gates Award for Global Health, AMREF is Africa’s leading health charity. Committed to the principle that only healthy societies can overcome poverty and inequality, we bring good-quality health care to the continent’s poorest and most vulnerable people.

Working in six African countries, we fight diseases such as HIV, TB, and malaria, we train health workers, and we make sure mothers and young children get a healthy start. Our Flying Doctors Service provides emergency care and health worker training to remote communities. We influence health policy with our research and we help communities to advocate for their right to good health.

African Solutions to Africa's Health Problems

With a long history and deep roots in the continent, we recognise that every community has different needs and every government faces different challenges in meeting them.

Working closely with both, we tackle Africa’s most intractable health problems with programmes that can be adopted by governments, local health authorities, and communities themselves: African solutions to Africa’s health problems.
