GSK 20% initiative - investing in development

AMREF partner pharmaceuticals company, GlaxoSmithKline has announced its commitment to reinvest 20% of profits made in the Least Developed Countries back into projects that strengthen the healthcare infrastructure in those countries.

Implemented across numerous African countries, AMREF is proud to be the partner organisation for this project in East and Southern Africa. Our projects implementing GSK 20% initiative aim to improve the health of people living in these regions by ensuring access to health workers at the community level. Health workers provide a vital link between health services and local communities and by training and up-skilling local people health education and knowledge is passed down into the communities themselves.

AMREF’s GSK 20% initiative projects are in the following countries: Angola; Burundi; Djibouti; Ethiopia; Lesotho; Madagascar; Mozambique; Rwanda; South Sudan; Tanzania; Uganda; Zambia

“GSK is committed to playing its part in improving access to health care in all of the countries in which we operate. We are pleased to partner with three respected NGOs to deliver solutions that can make a difference on the ground in the world’s poorest countries.”Andrew Witty, CEO, GSK
