Eighth AMREF Golf Day raises over £6,000 to support AMREF’s work in Africa
The annual AMREF Golf Day, organised by former Chair of AMREF UK John Pool, took place on the 18th May 2011. A record turn-out of 56 golfers enjoyed beautiful weather in the outstanding setting of Lambourne Golf Club.
Wentworth and Lambourne clubs were well-represented as ever, with men’s and ladies’ teams from both clubs competing.
Lambourne won the hotly contested AMREF cup, but the ladies from Wentworth beat the Lambourne ladies by a small margin. Teams from Accenture, PricewaterhouseCoopers and KPMG competed for the Corporate Cup, which was won by a team from Accenture.
The individual prizes were won by Tony Ward and Jude Butler. The Longest Drive competition was won by AMREF's Keith McAdam, a member of our International Board.
The day was rounded off with lunch in the clubhouse. Gautam Dalal, current Chair of AMREF UK, gave a small speech about AMREF’s current focus on maternal health and gave the example of Esther Madudu, a midwife working in difficult conditions in Uganda. There was also a raffle and an impromptu auction to maximise the income for AMREF!
In total, the event raised over £6,000 for AMREF, a fantastic achievement. Huge thanks to everyone that attended and congratulations to the prize winners!
