BBC documentary features AMREF's work in Southern Sudan
Mike Wooldridge, BBC’s world affairs editor, recently visited AMREF’s work in Southern Sudan for a Radio 4 documentary entitled Ground Zero: Rebuilding Southern Sudan.
The programme looks at how Southern Sudan is virtually rebuilding from scratch after a 21-year civil war.
It features an interview with AMREF’s country director Margaret Itto who explained how there are only 20 midwives serving a population of around 10 million people. Mike visited Lui hospital where AMREF is training community midwives and happened to see one of the trainees deliver her first baby.
He also visited the remote Terekeka county where AMREF is delivering a primary health care and water and sanitation programme for 250,000 people.
The programme will be broadcast on BBC World Service on 24th September and 1st October. Click here to listen to the programme on the BBC website.
Ruth Evans, the producer of the programme, wrote an article for the Scotsman, featuring AMREF’s work in Lui. Click here to read the article.
