Amref Health Africa UK Staff

The Amref Health Africa office in the UK focuses on increasing the impact of Amref Health Africa's work in Africa by generating funds to support Amref Health Africa's strategic health priorities.

We do this by partnering with colleagues in Africa to support the management of grants and funders and raising awareness of the health challenges facing the continent through campaigning and advocacy work. Our current campaigning priority is maternal mortality through our Stand Up for African Mothers campaign.

We currently employ 18 members of staff at our office in London, including:

Samara Hammond

Chief Executive Officer
Samara is a clinician, a Nurse Practitioner and Public Health specialist with over 20 years experience as a manager in the public health sector. She has worked both in the UK and in Africa including Kenya, Ethiopia and Uganda. Most recently she has been Associate Director of Quality Innovation and Clinical Governance at NHS Wandsworth, London.

Samara is well known to Amref Health Africa, having served as a UK Board member from 2003 to 2009, and regularly spent time in our programmes working clinically and providing public health evaluations.
