AMREF UK is a fairly small office, so if you are looking to get stuck in with a variety of tasks, and gain important skills for working in international development, this could be the opportunity for you!
Hear from a current volunteer
Name: Eleanor Mulindi-King
Age: 24
How long have you been volunteering at AMREF?
I have been volunteering at AMREF for just over 4 months.
Why did you decide to volunteer at AMREF?
After graduating I wanted to gain experience working for an international development NGO, and having heard of AMREF’s great work in Africa though my own links with Kenya I was very keen to take up this opportunity to volunteer.
What does it involve?
The work is extremely varied and has ranged from inputting data into the online database to leading on the PR strategy of a new fundraising event! I have been called upon to support all the teams within the office, which has meant there have always been challenges to face and new skills to learn.
What have you found particularly interesting?
Over the past four months there have been so many interesting aspects to my volunteer work. Being part of a small office has given me the chance to get a real overview of many of the different areas involved in running a development NGO. It has also given me the opportunity to really be part of a team that are dedicated and passionate about improving healthcare in Africa. It has been a greatly enjoyable experience and I will always feel part of the AMREF family!
If you have an interest in international development and some free time, then this would be the perfect volunteering opportunity for you!
